1. ROLE of ARCHITECT
The standard role of an architect is to create a architectural design for any kind of infrastructure with the help of several additional specialized consultants like structural, plumbing, electrical & mechanical consultants etc. Thus a separate guy "contractor" is required for construction. Whose work is fully guided by the construction drawings of the architect.
2. TECHNICAL COMPETENCE of ARCHITECT
Among so many architects of varying competence, a good architect has strong experience in spaces planning, climatology & aesthetics, though it is sufficient to have basic understanding in structure, electrical, plumbing, HVAC & landscape etc, as these aspects have to be handled by specialized consultants.
3. MATCH for YOUR PROJECT
Before awarding the project to an architect it is not possible for him to illustrate what he will make for you. So the only way is having a look over his previous works / portfolio, and if you find that of your taste, he is perfect match for your loving project.
4. ADDITIONAL CONSULTANTS
Structural consultant: The structural system of a building needs to be in accordance to the location specific codes & standards which have been made with regard to local wind & earthquake patterns. Therefore it is must for structural engineer to be a licensed professional.
MEP consultant: Are required to prepare concept to detailed schemes for electrical, plumbing, HVAC & firefighting systems and work in continuous coordination with architect.
It is clients choice whether any or all additional consultants are to be hire by him. Otherwise architect may do at his own, which is always better for smooth workflow.
5. SUPERVISION DURING the CONSTRUCTION
It is most important to understand the requirement of supervision during the construction. Supervision should be done by any qualified person who doesn't have any interest in manipulation in the design, accuracy & quality at site, thus it can be done by any qualified person appointed by client or concerned architect or a specialized agency called "PMC".
